Keep this for future reference.
When all consent parameters are received and set to "granted", tags behave as follows:
- advertising-related cookies are readable and writable;
- IP addresses are collected;
- the full URL of the web page, including click information on ad parameters within the URL (e.g., gclid/dclid), is retained;
- third-party cookies from sites previously set for google.com and doubleclick.net, as well as conversion-specific cookies (e.g., gcl*), are accessible.
For scenarios where one or more consent types are not obtained, additional algorithms are provided.
ad_personalization=’denied’:
- ad personalization is turned off. Data is not shared with the following functions: remarketing in Google Ads, Display & Video 360, Search Ads 360; ad personalization via Google's advertising products.
ad_user_data=’denied’:
- collection of personal data for internet advertising display is disabled, including: user identifiers, hashed proprietary data for extended conversion tracking.
ad_storage=’denied’:
- writing new advertising-related cookies is not executed;
- reading existing proprietary advertising cookie preferences is not executed;
- requests are sent through another domain to prevent transmission of previously set third-party cookies in their headers;
- GA4 does not read or write Google Ads cookies;
- data for Google signals is not collected;
- the full URL of the page, including click information on ad parameters within the URL (e.g., gclid/dclid), is retained. Click information is used only for traffic tracking;
- IP addresses are used to determine the country but are not logged by Google Ads and Floodlight systems and are immediately discarded. Note that Google Analytics 4 collects IP addresses as part of standard internet data transmission.
analytics_storage=’denied’:
- GA4 proprietary cookies are not available for reading or writing;
- consent signals without cookies are sent to Google Analytics 4 for tracking. GA4 algorithms will use them for modeling.
ad_storage=’denied’ and ads_data_redaction=’true’:
- writing new advertising-related cookies is not executed;
- reading existing advertising cookie preferences is not executed;
- requests are sent through another domain to prevent transmission of previously set third-party cookies in their headers;
- GA4 does not read or write Google Ads cookies;
- data for Google signals is not collected;
- In GA4, the full URL of the page, including click information on ad parameters within the URL (e.g., gclid/dclid), is retained. Click information is used only for traffic tracking. In Google Ads, ad click identifiers (e.g., gclid/dclid) are removed from consent and conversion signals;
- IP addresses are used to determine the country but are not logged by Google Ads/Floodlight system and are immediately discarded.
As you can see, these settings offer a myriad of options. Use them carefully.
